Manchester City defender Gael Clichy is out of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid because of an ankle injury.

Striker Mario Balotelli is also doubtful with a back problem and defender Micah Richards is an absentee because of a knee injury.

But midfielder James Milner is expected to return following a hamstring strain.
City need to win their last two Group D games against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund to have a chance of reaching the next stage.

"It is very difficult, but we will do what we can," said City manager Roberto Mancini of his side's chances of progressing.

Winger James Milner added: "It's unlikely as it is that we will go through, we want to win our remaining two games and give ourselves at least half a chance.
"And if that's not good enough, at least we can finish with our heads held high."
Meanwhile, the Spanish league champions will be hoping striker Karim Benzema can reproduce the form that helped his side defeat Athletic Bilbao 5-1 at the weekend.

The France international, back from a thigh injury, scored Real's third and set up German midfielder Mesut Ozil for the fourth.
Sami Khedira also returns from injury and is likely to partner former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso in central midfield.

Winger Denis Cheryshev has been called into the Madrid squad, with midfielder Michael Essien and forward Alvaro Morata sidelined.

Real boss Jose Mourinho will become the youngest coach to take charge of 100 Champions League matches on Wednesday and only the fifth manager to reach the milestone after Carlo Ancelotti, Arsene Wenger, Ottmar Hitzfeld and Sir Alex Ferguson.
